We arrived at Nanaimo by taking another 3.5hrs.
after Campbell River.

It took about 8hrs in total from Port Hardy, but
Nanaimo is still in the middle of this island.

Vancouver Island is much bigger than I thought.
Moreover I was sure the bus had arrived at Nanaimo DT,
however the final stop was ferry terminal and knew
the route had just changed quite recently.

I had to take city bus to DT with extra fare of $2.50.

"I have not heard of it, SHIT!!""
The expenses totaled a little more than I expected.

But anyway, I'm gonna get my money's worth though.

'Cos this may be my first visit to this town.
Bastion

This historic structure is now Nanaimo's premier landmark
because of its shape and its high visibility
from both land and sea.
The Hudson's Bay company began construction
of this octagonal shaped tower in 1853
to defend its coal mining operations
in Nanaimo.
The second floor contains examples
of the Bastion’s armament.

As a defensive structure, the Bastion had two
six-pount cannons for short range defense
and may well have stored other firearms
and gunpowder reserves.
The top floor provided storage for supplies
but was also designated as a place of
refuge for Hudson’s Bay Company
employees and families.

Today there is a display of the many kinds of objects
that miner-colonists would have brought
from Britain, as well as a display of the
tools and construction methods
utilized in building the Bastion.
In 1891, the Bastion was moved across the street and in 1974 it was relocated to its present location.
The cannon firing ceremony takes place daily at noon when the Bastion is open.

Panorama of Nanaimo Inner Harbor
Seaplane terminal was seen from lighthouse bistro.

Walked on the pedestrian deck
along the harbor.
Tremendous number of boats were moored at this pier.
Fleet of yellow tugboats

They are somewhat comical shaped.
Contributor to Hudson's Bay Company
who mentioned the coal mine in Winthuysen Inlet.
The next day, unfortunately,
the weather was gloomy again.
Today, am gonna walk around the DT.
First visit place was Nanaimo City Hall.
Lookout Nanaimo DT from the City Hall hill
Next, Nanaimo VIA rail station

A fire caused extensive damage to the station in 2007.
The building was rebuilt, but Via Rail's Victoria – Courtenay
train service has been suspended since 2011.
Station building will be opened quite soon as a restaurant.
Then, went into Old City Quarter. St. Andrews United Church
Located close to the station, many old style houses remain in this area, and here is regarded as one of tourist destinations.

Overlooking the city from Bastion St. over the Highway # 1.
Walked down again to seaplane terminal locating in waterfront area.
Several passengers walked on the floating pier
to take the plane.
I was looking out on the seaplanes for a while from the tip of the pier.
Maybe flying to Vancouver.

Seaplanes were flying and landing on the water
one after another.
tired of watching seaplanes and came back to walk around the harbor.

Lastly in a short moment, stopped by at old bus terminal (kind of a ruin) which is not used anymore.
This site is a bit far from DT center and should have taken a city bus in anyway.
